Established 1951-1952 in Harrania village, near the Pyramids of Giza. Founded by architect Ramses Wissa Wassef. Aga Khan Award for Architecture 1983. World-renowned centre producing unique handwoven wool tapestries, cotton weavings, and batik without pre-designed patterns. Works held in museums in Germany, Switzerland, France, the UK, and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. Currently managed by Suzanne Wassef and Ikram Nosshi. 25 full-time artists. Open to the public with guided tours, museum, and shop.
